A Guide to Our Water Damage Restoration Process
When a water conduit breaks, or an appliance’s feedline snaps off in a Chesapeake Beach home, SERVPRO®’s swift, thorough response is crucial to prevent further issues. With our experience and IICRC certifications, we can quickly assess the extent of damage and work on water restoration immediately.
The water restoration process in Chesapeake Beach begins when we stop and remove all water sources from your home’s interior. After we’ve extracted most of the water, we rely on the water’s natural evaporation process to clear any remaining moisture and enhance it with heat and airflow. An efficient drying phase is essential to prepare your home for the next steps in restoration.
The water damage restoration process involves three key steps:
- Addressing visible water and residual moisture
- Cleaning the home’s interior and making minor repairs
- Our approach to damaged materials
Ensuring your home’s interior and contents reach optimal moisture levels is crucial. Directed air currents and controlled heat accelerate the evaporation rate. Our desiccant machines trap excess water vapor, preventing moisture from condensing on surfaces and causing additional problems like mold or expansion of wood products.
We wipe down surfaces and check for damage to personal items. We begin cleaning and handling minor repairs once the area is dry, ensuring things are prepared and ready to install replacement materials. Proper preparation at this stage is essential for the restoration’s long-term success.
Removing and replacing damaged materials is essential to water restoration. Finally, we install new building components, replacing anything damaged beyond repair. This last stage entails most of the work, restoring your home to its preloss condition.
After a water leak or intrusion of any size, call SERVPRO of Calvert County at (410) 535-4733. We are Faster to any size disaster™, and seconds count when preventing extensive, preventable water damage from setting in your home.

Mold Damage Cleanup for Residential Bathrooms
5/11/2024 (Permalink)
SERVPRO says that poor ventilation and water leaks can cause mold damage in your Chesapeake Bay bathroom. Here to Help®
Chesapeake Beach Mold Remediation for Fixtures and Walls
Few areas of a given Chesapeake Bay home are more prone to mold damage than the bathroom. High humidity, organic material, and water damage frequently converge in this room, creating the ideal environment for spores to thrive in fixtures, drywall, or ventilation.
Certified SERVPRO® technicians respond to community needs at any time of day with commercial-grade tools and extensive training in mold remediation. Professional service aims to efficiently address mold damage while keeping Chesapeake Bay residents safe.
Vulnerable Areas in Residential Bathrooms
There are multiple areas homeowners should keep track of when considering where mold can develop in their bathroom, especially since spore growth often takes place under or behind surfaces. These include:
? Caulk, grout, and other porous adhesives found between fiberglass, tile, and other mold-resistant materials can be consumed by spores.
? Drywall, particularly near sinks and showers, can quickly prove vulnerable to moisture accumulation or water damage, which can enable mold proliferation.
? Floors and subfloors, especially around toilets, sinks, and showers, can harbor mold after frequent exposure to water. This is especially true after plumbing issues or fixture overflows occur.
SERVPRO Remediates Mold Spores and Associated Water Damage
Mold restoration professionals emphasize containment and safety during cleanup, including wearing PPE, sealing off ducts and doorways in the contaminated area, and using negative air pressure to control spore movement.
? If water damage remains, SERVPRO technicians focus on eliminating excess surface moisture and relative humidity with extraction tools, air movement, and dehumidification.
? HEPA filter vacuums can collect dried spores as small as 0.2 microns. The average mold spore is 2 to 10 microns in size.
? OSHA-approved biocides help address stains, bacteria, and spore-related odors and can be applied manually or sprayed on surfaces.

Treating Chesapeake Beach Flood Damage Cleanup with Urgency
5/6/2024 (Permalink)
For your flooded Chesapeake Beach home, call SERVPRO, we are Faster to any size disaster™.
Flood Damage Restoration Is Time Sensitive
Flooding is fast and aggressive, overwhelming structures and families. We are trusted restoration professionals who help with storm relief and post-flood cleanup.
The Steps of Mitigation
Flood damage cleanup in Chesapeake Beach homes starts with the mitigation and emergency services our restoration team can provide. A fast response to these emergencies ensures we can protect more property through swift action to lessen the impact of migrating water and moisture on the property. Some of the earliest mitigative steps that can start the restoration process include:
Water removal is among the first steps restoration professionals take in flooded homes and businesses. Extractors must manage water and potential solids, making trash pumps and wet vacuums preferable.
The presence of debris and solids brought in with the natural flooding can threaten the house. Not only is this a source of contamination for the structure, but it could also lead to more significant concerns like bug and pest infestations if not managed quickly. The Bay can sweep sludge, sand, organic debris, and "denizens of the deep" onto properties.
With a general contractor license, we can repair damaged areas of the property impacted by the flood. Additionally, during mitigation, our contractor license is beneficial for removing exposed materials we cannot salvage.
Cleaning After Flood Exposure
Before complete and effective cleaning can take place, our technicians prioritize drying. Using various products, from air movers to mops and towels, we can remove pooling water or puddling on nonporous materials like tile and concrete. With these surfaces cleared and dried, more significant measures can be taken to remove contaminants and debris still impacting the property.
Contamination is a considerable concern when floodwater infiltrates areas of your property. Our team cleans nonporous materials, while porous elements often will be removed and replaced. Controlled demolition is frequently a key element in structural restoration and repair. In addition, we have a line of proprietary products designed for effective cleaning and restoration solutions after potential contamination.
Because flooding can happen without warning, homes can be devastated by intruding water. Restoration professionals must act fast to mitigate loss and protect the property from further harm. We are specialists focusing on safety, cleanliness, and thorough recovery until life returns to normal. When disasters strike, call SERVPRO of Calvert County at (410) 535-4733.
Fire Damage Restoration Services in Huntingtown

SERVPRO says--Safety first during fire damage cleanup and restoration in Huntingtown houses. Here To Help®
Call SERVPRO® for Help Cleaning and Restoring Your Home After Fire Damage
In the chaos of a fire at your Huntingtown home or business, it is often difficult to focus on recovery and restoration activities. Even with a small kitchen fire, firefighters are traipsing through your home; they have doused the fire with chemicals or water, and there may be smoke odors in the kitchen. Are your family and your pets ok? You must talk to the fire chief and concerned neighbors, offering help and empathizing with your situation.
Once the situation is under control, it is time to call SERVPRO to help clean up and restore the fire damage in your Huntingtown home. We can be onsite within four hours of your call, 24/7, assess the damage, and prepare a plan to clean, repair, and restore your home to its original condition "Like it never even happened."
Always keep your own and your family's safety in mind. Be careful of electrical hazards and watch for slippery areas such as wet floors. Stay out of the house until the firefighters give the all-clear sign. Wet materials can be very heavy, straining backs and stretching muscles unaccustomed to heavy weights.
Additional considerations regarding what to do after a fire include:
- Avoid walking on carpets and touching upholstery, which can embed soot particles into the fabric.
- Keep your hands clean, especially when touching fabrics, walls, and furniture.
- If you must walk through a carpeted area, placing clean towels over the carpet will help protect the carpet.
- The electricity may need to be shut off for a day or two. Empty your fridge and freezer, and keep the doors open.
During the restoration process, SERVPRO will clean and dry all surfaces, disinfect, and make required repairs as needed.
